Riyan wore the standard armor all the Dark One's wear, except due to his second in command status he had silver embroidery on the chest piece as opposed to red. He also wore a purple mask from his chin up to his cheeks, and had blue hair.

Out of all the qualities shown, Riyan appeared to be boastful, overconfident, proud and arrogant.

The Dark Ones were once a part of the Fallen House of Ryōdoji, exiled 1000 years ago to the Dangai Precipice World. Amazingly, the group somehow managed to avoid the deadly current flowing through the entire Dangai, and resided there for many years. It was in this world that Riyan, along with the rest of his clan, discovered the souls that evaded transmigration and turned into wandering ghosts: The Blanks. The Dark Ones learned to harness the Blanks as an energy source for their own power learning all the information there is about them, and formulated a plan for revenge against Soul Society. Some time before the events of the film take place, Riyan's clan came to the Valley of Screams where they continued to reside. Riyan was their leader's right hand man, being the most powerful of the group next to him.

Bleach: Memories of Nobody
He first appears when he, along with the rest of the Dark Ones (except for Ganryū) attempt to capture Senna, but retreat as soon as Ichigo Kurosaki arrives. Later, the Dark Ones ambush the Shinigami sent to retrieve the Memory Rosary, which begins with Riyan firing his rockets. Riyan first went after Lieutenant Matsumoto for a moment, but was immediately attacked by her superior, Tōshirō Hitsugaya. During their brief fight he was able to negate Hyōrinmaru, and fire multiple attacks to keep him occupied. They all retreat as soon as Ganryū successfully captures Senna. Later, when Ichigo breaks into the Valley of Screams he, along with the rest of the Dark Ones, attempt to stop him, but are interrupted when the Shinigami arrive as reinforcements. He engages Tōshirō Hitsugaya in battle, keeping him on the run and even seemingly pins him down. However, the tables are turned as soon as Hitsugaya releases his Bankai: Daiguren Hyōrinmaru. The Blanks he was using as an endless ammo supply were frozen by the captain's icy spiritual pressure, and was killed shortly after.

Blank Manipulation: The Dark Ones eventually learned how to harness the Blanks for their own power, during the time they spent in the Dangai Precipice World. Riyan was very proficient with this ability, second only to his leader, Ganryū.
Rocketpacks: Riyan's only weapons were his two rocketpacks, which could be used for powerful explosive attacks.
* Unlimited Ammunition:Riyan, the second in command of the group used Blanks to create an unlimited supply of weapons for his rocket packs. This for the most part consisted of rockets and explosives.
* Grappling Claws: The Rocketpacks also had the ability to fire multiple claws at an opponent, which seemingly explode on contact. The maximum amount he was seen using was 8.
Spinning Blade: During his first fight with Hitsugaya, he was able to neutralize a strong ice attack from his Shikai by using a strong spinning blade. He was not seen using it again, but the weapon can be best described as a hand-held bladed rotating fan.[1]
Flash Steps Expert: Riyan was able to keep up with Hitsugaya, a captain, using Shunpo.
